Transplants (2021-22)
In my newest body of work, I explore my experiences moving from green, lush Ohio to the deserts of Southern California. Luminous cast glass succulents stuffed next to shiny crystals balance the matte, carved textured surface of the clay, further perpetuating ambiguity. Cavities agape, some filled with precious objects, while others act as peepholes to more treasures. These ceramic sculptures are intended to cause the viewer to question whether they are of the desert, the sea, or possibly the forest and emit a sense of belonging everywhere and nowhere at the same time.
